Low lying land, the polder in image and sound
The Gorcums Museum
Gently swaying poppies, the smell of hay, a Dutch sky, roaring sound of water like the polder is draining. The exhibition The polder in sound and image lets the landscape of the Alblasserwaard becomes alife, twenty Dutch artists show how they are grabbed by this landscape. From September 11 till November 14, 2010.
The exhibition is part of the event low-lying land, a collaboration of seven museums in the Alblasserwaard that shows the polder from all angles.
Farming, crafts, dike strengthening, flooding, excavation … it is all in this event which takes place throughout the autumn of 2010.

Oorverdovend stil presented
Photo by Erik Leeman, for surround photography have a look at: www.erikleeman.com
Deafening stillness abounds in the landscapes painted by Frank Dekkers, an artist who portrays the man-made landscape of Holland. And with unspoiled nature virtually non-existent in the Netherlands, the thought that every shovelful of earth in the Netherlands has – at sometime – been worked by man, is a grim one indeed. Dekkers paints what is left of no man’s land: no man, no animal on the land, no bird, no house; a landscape that has no need of anything outside itself.
